Edith bids adieu to adulating “Aventurera” fans, for now.
“As superstition dictates, I must promise to return. They say, theater plays are worse than jealous wives. Of course, I have to promise to return. “Aventurera” has my word.”  This was sworn  by the blonde actresses after taking her final bow for the theater production she has been taking part in for five years.
The Mexican star is now in Colombia beginning to shoot Doña Barbara, a telenovela which was once thought to be Gabriela Spanic’s.

According to Edith, her role is ineed a challenge. She has to learn not only to handle firearms but also mount horses well.

“This is one of the most complex characters I’ve done.” the actress uttered. She adss: “My role is a woman of strength, wild, masculine, because live have taught her to be tough. Despite all the pain, hatred, the bitterness and resentment which she guards in her souls, there exists some weakness in her that makes her human.”

“Physically, she is my opposite. She brandishes firearms like nobody; I, on the contrary, I am scared of them,” she admits.Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Thou Reyes, meant to play a gay role

By Rachelle Siazon

Prayers and ample preparation paved the way for Thou Reyes to play the role of Hugo, the gay designer in Betty La Fea.
Prior to his audition for this upcoming series of ABS-CBN, Thou already researched on the possible roles that he would be tested for. “Walang black sa original. Ang pinaghandaan ko ay si Nicolas, one of the officemates, and si Hugo. So yun na kaagad ang naisip ko. Kasi ganun naman eh. Pag a-attack ka sa giyera dapat may bala ka.”
And when he came to the casting interview, he was asked to try-out for a character which he studied beforehand. “Nakakatawa si Direk Jerry Lopez-Sineneng. Nanonood siya ng Kapitan Boom so kilala niya ko as Bukol. So tawa siya ng tawa. So sabi niya try nga natin mag-act ka ng gay designer. Ayun na.”
Luckily, Thou was able to impress Direk Jerry with his acting piece. His secret weapon was his familiarity with the original version of Betty La Fea from Columbia and more importantly, his knowledge of the gay lingo. “Masarap kasi sa Kapitan Boom yung staff dun puro babaeng bakla. Dun ko hinugot. Kaya heto, yung successful audition ko, galing yun sa production ng Kapitan Boom.”
At the same time, his petitions alongside his family and friends’ prayers helped him get the part he is waiting for. “Sila yung may alam na nag-audition ako. They all prayed for me. Tapos yung audition piece ko sa screen test nilagay ko sa altar after nung audition. Sabi ko nun bahala na Siya. Lahat kay God talaga.”
Now that he landed a part in Betty La Fea, Thou is determined to give it his best shot. “I’m excited kasi it’s different. Ang sarap paglaruan. Lalo na yung pwedeng ibigay ng director tsaka pwede kong ibigay. I’m very thankful kasi binibigyan ako ng chance ng ABS-CBN to play different roles-from Kung Fu to Kapitan Boom and now Betty. So gagalingan ko nalang talaga.”

Looking back, the former ‘Ang TV’ child star never imagined that he would be able to act again when he had his comeback exposure as a contender for U Can Dance Version 2. “After I finished my studies, tinanong ako ni Mr. M kung anong gusto kong gawin. Ang una ko talagang nasabi, ‘I wanna dance’. So napunta ko sa ASAP Full Circle and then U Can Dance. Hindi talaga ako naghahangad ng sobra pa. Pero because of the opportunities…so tanggap lang ng tanggap, tapos gawin na lang yung best.”

Who will play Armando in Betty La Fea?

By KRIS DANIELLE SUAREZ

The cast of the much-awaited ABS-CBN teleserye “I Love Betty La Fea” was revealed in a sneak peek Monday night, but the big question still remains: who will play Betty’s boss and love interest, Armando?

The first peek at the cast of “Betty,” topbilled by Bea Alonzo, who will play the title character, was shown on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida’s “My Girl!” Monday evening.

The Philippine version of the worldwide hit series adapted characters from both the Colombian and US versions, and the cast includes veteran actors as well as fresh faces in the industry.

Betty is a smart yet unattractive girl, fresh out of college, who wants to prove her worth in the working world. After a lot of unsuccessful job applications, she lands a job at the Eco Moda fashion agency, where she encounters a lot of interesting and difficult characters who aren’t used to seeing anything – or anyone – unfashionable walking along their corridors.

Actress and style icon Ruffa Gutierrez will play Betty’s nemesis Daniella, while comedian Vhong Navarro will play her best friend and officemate Nicolas.

Betty’s family will be portrayed by Ai-Ai De Las Alas (Julia, her mother), Sam Concepcion (Andrew, her brother), and Ronaldo Valdez (Hermes, her father), while Marvin Yap (Bart) and Lloyd Zaragoza (Roman) play her neighbors.

The Eco Moda office will be staffed by Sheryn Regis (Kylie), Meryll Soriano (Rose), Krystel Moreno (Jen), Arlene Tolibas (Cely), CJ Jaravata (Rita), and Sammy Villaresis (Guard), while Daniella’s office clique will be composed of Wendy Valdez (Patricia) and Megan Young (Marcela).

The Eco Moda team will be completed by Joem Bascon (Mario), Randolf Stamalacky (Randy), Ronnie Liang (Enrique), Jojo Alejar (Mac) and Thou Reyes (Hugo).

Since most of the scenes will be shot in an office setting, ABS-CBN decided to construct a full-scale office set just for the series: the Eco Moda office set is already under construction at one of the floors of the Eugenio Lopez Jr. Communications Center building in the ABS-CBN compound.

Story-wise, expect to see a lot of Filipino touches, although a lot of the original elements are being retained.

Only one character remains to be filled, and the producers are still keeping under wraps the identity of the actor who will play the apple of Betty’s eyes. Will Bea finally be sharing kilig scenes with hot hunk Jon Avila, or will she test her on-screen chemistry with either Luis Manzano, Aga Muhlach, Piolo Pascual, or even Bea’s reported new flame Jake Cuenca? Or will diehard fans get their wish granted to see their favorite love team reunited once again? Stay tuned to ABS-CBN, and be the first to know!

“Betty” will soon be shown on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block.
